Travel 2014: El Nido and Puerto Princesa Palawan

El Nido

Now checking off my bucketlist: Puerto Princesa, Coron Palawan and now El Nido.

We stayed in the cozy house called Marikit Pensionne, which is just 3 minutes away from the beach where all the boatmen park their “tourist boats”.

El Nido offers 4 different tours (A,B,C,D). Ours was tour A and tour C. What I liked best was tour C which includes my favorite beaches which are not known to many and the other one is very hard to find. Nah, I’m just kidding but these two beaches are secret beach and hidden beach.

Most of the time, we were snorkeling with the fishes and swimming in the deep blue sea. But the fun part of the trip was the buffet lunch served by the boatmen. It was indeed the best seafood experience so far. Fruits were carved, designed to entice you and the grilled fish? Ooh lalala heaven in my mouth while you hear the relaxing sound of waves by the shore. It was indeed the best R&R.

We ended our trip in El Nido with a fun drinking session in our accommodation “Marikit Pensionne” on our second night.

Next, Puerto Princesa City. We started of with a very early morning trip to the underground river. I have visited PPUR in 2011 and I know it’s not nice to say this, but there’s not much changes to see. But I would still recommend visiting PPUR for the first timers.

Moving on, everyone was already hungry for some real Palawan local cuisine, we indulge ourselves to a buffet lunch for only 200 pesos that includes our experience of eating Tamilok or what they call Wood worm found living inside the woods of Mangrove trees around Palawan. Don’t worry it’s not really a worm but a part of the mollusk family however, it resembles a worm. But it definitely tastes and feels like raw oysters.

That last afternoon in Puerto Princesa was quite quick. We had the City tour but due to time constraint we limit it to the best of best of what the City has to offer, that includes Pasalubungan Place (Goodies place). Hahah

By the way, our accommodation in Puerto Princesa was a newly constructed lodge which was not yet operational at that time. Owner came from Germany to open a business here in the Philippines. The lodge has a fresh and cozy feel whose owner’s number I won’t be able to provide due to my lost phone. But you may contact Marikit Pensionne, owner of both inn or lodge are pretty much related.

Anyhow, overall, the trip was worth it even in my case who have lost a phone.

Here’s a sample guide for you for El Nido – PPS:

Day 0 – 9 PM Arrival in PPS

1 AM Arrival in El Nido

Day 1 – Tour A

– Dinner Sea Slugs

Day 2 – Tour C

Day 3 – Underground River tour & PPS city tour

Due to the lost of my phone during the trip, I also lost my contact. Good thing they have a website which you could visit.

Kuya Sonny, the owner of the pension house, arranged almost everything for us (Van transfers, Tour, Puerto Princesa tours and Accommodation) and even gave us a discount.

Thanks to you!

Seoul, South Korea in 7 days

Almost a year of planning and I have my eyes focused on one reward I could give to myself : Korea Trip with my ultimate travel buddy friend – Noel.

Seoul, South Korea is basically one of the cities you can do the “go-with-the-flow” itinerary. It’s nice to get lost and wander here. Transportation is not a problem and people are very much accommodating especially to tourists even if sometimes they don’t understand you.

Here are the amazing things I have experience:

IMG_3966

Gyeongbokgung Palace, Seoul – our entrance fee was free because they were holding the Chuseok festival on that day. On a regular day, the entrance fee would cost you 2000 KRW.

IMG_4009

The area of the palace is big so better wear comfy shoes for this.

Korean Baby

I definitely enjoyed observing people especially the little ones because they’re cute and cuddly. I wanna “gigil” as what the Filipinos would say.

Bukchon Hanok Village
Bukchon Hanok Village
The Bukchon Hanok Village – it’s nice to see the old houses preserved. You would notice how intricate every detail of the roofs and facade were made, it would definitely stand the test of time. If you are fond of plants/gardening/trees like me, you would also notice the abundance of Persimmon trees in some of the houses in Korea. One of which is in front of the guesthouse I was staying in Sinchon District. No entrance fee.

Gwanghwamun Square

Gwanghwamun Square – We found this historical site jam packed with Koreans and tourists on a Tuesday morning. We also found some of the families of the ones killed in the sinking of MV Sewol convened in the area with the placards. Though I didn’t understand, the families are pleading for help and justice. No entrance fee.

N Seoul Tower
N Seoul Tower
We went to N Seoul Tower for the lovers lockers and the 360 degree view of Korea. You would notice how big the city is and how many mountains you can hike in Seoul. If you wanna go up the tower it can cost you 10,000 KRW.

Nami Island
Nami Island
Nami Island – A country side destination somewhere near Seoul. If you are a K-Novela fan, I bet you can relate to this. But if you are like me, you would probably focus more on the colors of trees, the activities and squirrels you will find strolling with you in the Island. It’s really nice to spend the whole day here in Nami, especially if you are going here for a picnic. Entrance fee: 10,000 KRW; bring passport for discount.

K-Novela pose in Nami Island

After spending almost a whole day in Nami Island, we were suppose to visit the Garden of Morning Calm but the gates closes at 6 pm and I really wanted to see more of it so we decided to go back in Seoul instead and do some food tripping. On our way to Dongdaemun District, we came across a stream they call the Cheonggyecheon. The stream is a massive $900 million urban renewal project, initially criticized but eventually became popular to locals and tourists after the opening in 2005. No entrance fee.

Next day, my friend and I opted to go our separate solo trips. I went back to Gyeonggi-do to visit the Garden of Morning Calm while he went to Everland for amusement.

Garden of the Morning Calm
Garden of the Morning Calm
This is definitely my haven in Korea – The Garden of the Morning Calm, while Gardens by the Bay is my haven in SG. I enjoyed much of my alone time in this garden. This is pretty much the best place to reflect and pray. It is so calm and relaxing, every angle is heavenly filled with flowers, grass and pine trees. It is easier to breathe here. This is where spent my whole day, while drinking my favorite sikhye (rice drink)!

After spending some time with the trees, I followed my trail to Noryangjin market to visit my sea creature friends. This is pretty much like “Dampa” in the Philippines where you could buy and ask someone to cook it for you. Say hello to my octopus friends.

noryangjinIMG_4225

I spent the whole evening in the guesthouse after I felt that I’ve utilized my feet well the whole day. I made friends with some of the host and I met a photo journalist from Demotix who gave some advice about photography and told me stories about survival as a protester in Venezuela. Really interesting guy.

Our 5th day was entirely spent on Shopping. We went to COEX mall and the next thing we knew we are already hoarding some beauty products in Myeongdong. Prices are insanely cheaper and my sister would really love it here.

Our night was spent in Hongdae, which is the area known for arts and indie music. We craved for some Korean realness so we ate our hearts away with the authentic char-grilled Korean Barbecue while drinking Magkeolli (Korean rice wine). I must say, this will offset the days I opted not to eat in Korea aside from 711 goodies because my tastebuds are not really made for Kimchi.

food trip in Korea

For our last day, my friend and I went for our solo trips again. He went to experience the Spa for 18,000 won  while I visited the Dog Cafe in Myeongdong District. I can’t help but miss my dogs at home here. For 8,000 won you get to bond with the different breed of cute dogs and get a free iced tea as well.

Dog Cafe - Myeongdong

After which, I continued my shopping because I still have tons of things on my list. I met with my friend in the afternoon to bid Korea Kamsahamnida – Until the next season. I will definitely miss Korea and its fast Internet and cheap beauty products and most of all I will miss the friendly transportation and good weather. Lucky to experience Korea this year and I will definitely come back here to experience Spring!

Baler

A new force has pulled me last month and that’s the waves of the Pacific Ocean. Yes it is Surfing! I’ve been wanting to try surfing since last year but I did not have the guts and the effort to do it. Lucky me, someone invited me for a weekend in Baler. Stunned by the majestic big rocky islets and frothe-ish kind of waves splashing through each crevice, I climbed the lighthouse of Dicasalarin Cove just to get an overview of what Baler, Aurora has to offer. Touring the town of Baler gave me a hint that it’s no ordinary tourist spot. Baler has its own identity, the waves has its own story and the rocks speaks history.

Dicasalarin Cove
Dicasalarin Cove

Located 230 kilometres Northeast of Manila passing thru zigzags and mountains, a lavish green and blue welcomes you and finally what you imagined nature would be up close is now staring at you , enticing you and alluring right before your eyes. At least to a City girl like me.

Walk-Hike-Climb-Swim-and-Surf are basically the activities you could do in Baler. What did I miss? Oh someone told me you could also ride a horse by the beach something that mimics that of a hollywood movie.

For starters we spent our Saturday touring the town. Climbing a tree is not a first time to me but climbing a Millennial Balete Tree and swinging by its roots like a monkey was worth the Leg numb I experienced during the motorcycle ride on the way.

Moving on, Ditumabo Falls, also known as the Mother Falls is quite a walk from the drop off/ parking area and if you are such a nature seeker like me, you will surely love the river crossing, walking under the canopies of humongous trees and seeing different kinds of Birds. Pretty much like my own version of “Big Year”. The cold-crystal clear torrent rushing from the waterfalls is surely an answer for the scorching heat of sun and the obstacle rocks along the way. Indeed, the trek is definitely worth it (worth the PAGOD) but it will definitely starve you. So, Good thing there is Gerry Shan’s at the town proper, a buffet restaurant for only 185 PHP per Head. Not bad right? They serve all sorts of Filipino food and desserts that will absolutely cure you grumbling tummy. Oh yes!

Mother Falls
Mother Falls

More so, only a street away from Gerry Shan’s is the house of Manuel L. Quezon and the Baler Museum – the answer to your curiosity about the history and foundation of Baler, Aurora which was once part of Quezon Province.

Following the sound of the ocean, we went for a quick rock climbing (not a pro) in Diguisit Rock Formation. The dare-devil in me will not say No to this. (lol) Just looking at the waves from the rock formations made me crave for some real action. I mean SURFing action. .

BALER

So voila! S-U-R-F-I-N-G. I gave my self a pat for not giving up and for drinking  tons of salty- water. Oh and I had fun even though I only had 5 sec successful balance in the board and guess what, not bad for a first timer huh. :)) and it’s only 350php per session/hour. What a delight! 🙂 Also, I came back a few weeks after that first time surfing and I could say that my Surfing Career (LOL) has progressed. Hahaha kidding! Well, seriously, surfing is fun to learn. I suggest you try it for yourself. You know what they say in life; You can’t stop the waves, but you can learn to surf. 🙂 #notconnected #sorrynotsorryBaler

Magnificent Coron

Back in 2012, my friend Noel and I booked a trip going to Coron, Palawan. We took advantage of the Cebu Pacific piso fare promo for a total of 1100 php/pax roundtrip ticket to Coron Palawan. Palawan has been my dream destination  place here in the Philippines since forever. Luckily I was able to visit Puerto Princesa in 2011 with my friend Barry Viloria and finally, I was able to visit Coron Palawan August this year. Hopefully I will soon visit El Nido, Palawan to complete my Palawan bucket list.

Coron is a municipality in Palawan which covers the eastern part of Busuanga island and other Coron Islands and islets nearby. It is well known for its diving spots that shows dozen of Japanese sunken warships. As a matter of fact, Coron, Palawan was listed at the Forbes Magazine’s one of the top 10 best scuba diving sites in the world.

Day 1.

MT. TAPYAS

A 730+ steps climb up, other than the dark cirrus clouds, there was a beautiful sun kissing the horizon at sunset that welcomed us at the top of Mt. Tapyas. At the top stood a huge cross which is I believe being used during the Holy Week ceremonies for Catholics here in the Philippines, also welcoming us is a lush of green mountains and inviting view of the ocean and islands that would really make you say “wow” and definitely make you wanna go jump. (kidding)

View from Mt. Tapyas
View from Mt. Tapyas

Passing by several people on our climb down, most of them would ask  how far more do they have to go, well the trick to this is to say – “You’re almost there, 3 mins from here...” lol even though it’s still 30 mins away, this way they would surely keep going. hahaha. I know this is kind of mean but it is really helpful you know. Anyhow, next stop is Cashew Factory – Well, I love nuts and I really love Cashews however I think Cashew nuts in Coron are gold. My friend, Noel insisted that we just get 2 packs because according to him, Cashew nuts from Antipolo is way more cheaper than what is being offered in Coron. I understand that their target market are tourist and foreigners but hey it’s really pricey but the good news here is they gave us the sample packs and I’m grateful but it’s still expensive..

Maquinit Hotspring

Super init – Playing between 39-40 degrees Celsius, Maquinit Hot spring is a salt water hotspring and is definitely not advisable to people with hyper tension.  At first I was a bit skeptic because it really is hot, I can imagine boiling an egg here in no time but nonetheless, it is truly relaxing once you get adjusted to the temperature. The entrance to Maquinit Hotspring is 150php/pax, There’s no available fresh water in the place for your after- wash so you better be ready to stay wet and salty (yum- lol) until you get to your accommodations. We stayed in Maquinit until 7pm before we head back to the city proper for some yummy dinner.

Maquinit Hotspring
Maquinit Hotspring

For dinner, I ate Seafood Spaghetti it is really yummy and the serving size is good for sharing. I forgot the name of the resto but it is somewhere near the Plaza. We ended the night early because my friend was really tired and had no decent sleep yet.

DAY 2.

Sunblock (/)

Sunglasses (/)

Swimsuit (/)

Sun (?)

Yes, it was a drizzling Sunday but not even a drop could ever stop us from touring the majestic and magnificent Coron. Heading to Lualhati park for our boat ride, we rented goggles for snorkeling because we didn’t wanna miss the awesome coral gardens. First stop, Siete Pecados – why it is called Siete Pecados? is a story you should hear first hand from the people of Coron. 🙂

2nd Stop – Kayangan Lake

It was a 10 minute hike up. A beautiful view of multi-hued waters and rocky islets will surprise you. It was such an amazing view and surreal to find one that looks like just a painting, truly a God’s masterpiece. No wonder everyone taking a Coron trip has a “mandatory” PHOTO of this. Well uhmm kindly excuse our fats.

Kayangan Lake

It was a hike up for the view of this and a climb down to the Kayangan lake where the Life jacket party is on. The crowd of people are all having fun even though it was raining and all wet. Even our cameras, well. Thanks to Olympus Waterproof camera, I don’t have to worry about it getting all soaked.

Our tour went on even though it was all drizzling and windy. Next we went to Twin Peak, then another coral garden. I was feeling a little bit cold already so I didn’t bother to go for a swim anymore but my friend Noel didn’t want to miss the experience so there he goes swimming in the rain.More so, I’ve noticed, the waters here are habitats for umpteen Sea Urchins so it is really important to be careful not to step on them because seriously it is painful and the best antidote for the pain is peeing on the affected part. HAHAHA Oh and Calamansi and vinegar helps as well.

Oh by the way, the tour also includes a sumptuous lunch and the food they served are really delicious. There’s liempo, seaweeds, fish and enseladang tagalog.

CYC BEACH

Moving on. Last stop CYC Beach, no need to wear for a life jacket here, thank God. The island has a beige color sand (I’m being specific here, ok) and it’s a habitat for a few Bakawan (Mangrove trees) and also animals like uhmm a dog and a cat which are being fed by the people who visit there every day. I can imagine how lonely they were in the island.

CYC BEACH
I love Koi for my Swimwear!

We met a few friendly tourist people like us, one of them is even a solo backpacker. Her name is Sarah who’s an architect and a graduate of UST. I really am envious of her, I really wanted to try backpacking alone and it is one of my bucket list . Someday, I will surely do that.

After the tour, we went straight back to our hotel and change immediately. We were hoping to catch the mass in St Agustin Parish since it’s a Sunday and the town of Coron is celebrating the feast of St. Agustin.

After the mass, me and Noel had an agreement to have this night off separately. We went on our personal “Alone-time” which is a  mundane sesh to my every trip. I had the chance to walk around and try the food in the town plaza and after which an old friend of mine from college who lives in Coron invited me to have dinner at Kawayanan Grill. He is an avid motorcyclist so I had my transpo free for the night. Yay to freebies.

We also toured the city for awhile before he dropped me off back to my hotel.

DAY 3

The next morning, we head again to Lualhati park to rent a boat for a half day tour to Twin Lagoon, Barracuda lake and Banol Beach supposedly.

BARRACUDA LAKE

Our first destination is Barracuda Lake, it is 80% fresh water and 20% salt and a very unique lake with its varying temperatures of the water ranging from 29 degrees from surface to 12meters to 31-41 degrees. It is very refreshing to swim here not only for the water but also for the picturesque scenery which is surrounded by different limestone rock formations. Ah, perfect haven! I could just relax here all day.

On the other hand, Being curious why it is called Barracuda lake, I asked about it to the boat man and according to him it is called Barracuda Lake because hiding in its very deep water lives a humongous barracuda fish. Well, lucky me I didn’t see him face to face or else I’d be totally freaked out to swim forever. Kidding. But seriously, I googled barracuda fish and It looks scary. So, thank God I didn’t see him. Anyhow, according to the tourist guide it is very rare that people see the barracuda fish in the lake even to divers.

Barracuda lake

TWIN LAGOON

Next stop, Twin Lagoon.

A very tranquil and serene place to swim. There was a nice traverse here, you may pass through under the rock formation which is approximately 6-7 feet deep (I recommend this if you hate climbing up and down) or through a ladder only for thin people (kidding). Truly lovely.

Twin Lagoon
Twin Lagoon
Twin Lagoon
Twin Lagoon

After Twin Lagoon, we were suppose to go to Banol Beach however on our way, we encountered a unique kind of storm-ish in the sea, they call it Subasco. It lasted for about 30-45 minutes. It was raging and looks like a storm that almost turned our boat upside down, good thing our boatmen are very alert. It was one hell of a ride and I will never forget the Subasco day in Coron. It made the “adventure” in my Coron trip!

For our 3rd night in Coron, we spent it with RR and his family because it’s San Miguel Night with free beers (yahoo) and entertaining singers at the town plaza (this is wholesome, ok) 🙂 Yes to free beers!! For midnight snack, we went to Foodtrip restaurant near Lualhati Park for a delicious Goto (Congee) care of RR Palanca again. Yess to freebies. Such a very accommodating friend, he’s really amazing! 🙂

It was a lovely night and sadly our last night in Coron, Palawan.

Our last day in Coron did not pass without souvenirs, I got myself a shout out shirt which says “Never Stop Exploring.” Indeed, we should never stop exploring because life is a big adventure. André Gide a french author and a Nobel Prize winner once said “It is only in adventure that some people succeed in knowing themselves – in finding themselves.”

Throwback: Summer Camp 2013

Summer 2013. For a change, we ditched the luxury of a hotel accommodation and went on a breath taking nature camp trip in Zambales. The lush of green pine trees beside the blue shore, the freshness of the wind that touches my skin, the twilight which illuminated the vast mountain in orange at sun down, then at night time, the ocean of stars covering the sky as they twinkle above me perhaps telling me how wonderful the night is. Truly magnificent; a trip to remember.

Anawangin Cove – is one of the popular destination for camping in Zambales. It is actually a good place to think and relax because of the serene place. By the way there is no electricity in Anawangin so better charge your cameras in full. While your phone is safe to be turned off because mobile networks are also not within reach.

Coming from Manila via Van, we reached Pundaquit Zambales in 3 hours we didn’t even use the SCTEX on our way. Good thing we left Manila at 3 am. Thanks to our friendly driver Jonathan who drives like Frank Martin in the movie transporter. Oh and I’m kidding. He’s actually a safe driver. Upon reaching Zambales, we went to the market first to buy stuff we needed for our camp, the meat, fish and so so. We brought our own camping stove and other supplies so it will be more convenient for us.

To go to Anawangin,  we headed to the boat for a 30 minute boat ride. There were a few islands you’re going to see during the boat ride so make sure you have your cameras ready with you. You definitely don’t wanna miss the different rock formations, mountains and sea shores on the islands you’re going to pass by.

Boat ride to Anawangin
Boat ride to Anawangin

Welcoming us are the row of Pine trees in the cove and underneath them stood the tents of the other groups of people who are going to spend the night away and those who are just spending the day. There are actually so much ways on how to have a good  and calm way of relaxing in Anawangin, One is sleeping on the tent and taking advantage of the tranquility of the area or you can just “swing your nap away” by tying a hammock between two trees then voila you’re off for a nice serene siesta.

With me are my college friends, Noel, Maan + Ron, Yayi + Jin, Liez + Gerald, Diana + Rael (I know, I Forgot to mention about their plus one except for the two of us, me and noel)

The funny thing is even though I’m the only single girl in the group I find it surprisingly really “nakakakilig” (warm and fuzzy) to see them with their plus ones. They’re all different with their plus one. (Ehem I’m not being sarcastic. This is just me being observant and not bitter.) To be honest, I may have known them individually but with their partners, they were all totally different and It’s actually new to my eyes and I think it is wonderful. I’m happy for them and soon I will be happy for Noel. YAY!

Under the Pine trees
Under the Pine trees

Mean while, without anything to do yet, we took the liberty of walking around the coast and appreciating the goodness of God’s masterpiece but something horrible came to our sight and these are the scattered plastics, bottles and other unwanted remnants not disposed properly by the campers and these are the stuffs that are undeniably ruining the loveliness of the environment. Totally an eye sore. (Seriously, guys?)

Moving on, during the rest of the day, we kept ourselves busy by playing cards under the trees, chatting, sleeping and eating #likeaBoss. Anyway, what can we do? it’s too sunny and hot. Of course we know that too much exposure to sun is harmful to our skin. (UVA causes sunburns and UVB causes wrinkles, HAHA)

Sun's heat
Sun’s heat

At around 4P.M, we jumped immediately to the beach for our afternoon swim. Define A-W-E-S-O-M-E. Just swimming and swimming until the sun sets at the horizon beautifully. At 6pm we are already preparing our dinner and bonfire. Thanks to Ron who prepared most of the viands and me? I’m just there sitting pretty. Naaah. Me and Noel prepared the bonfire. So it was a lovely feast during the evening. There’s grilled pork, grilled fish, hotdogs, smores and ehem Tequila and Brandy. And YES, I’m totally in control of myself. I didn’t want to have the hang over that is why I skipped tequila and sipped just a few from that beehive brandy, after all what’s more fun is seeing all the craziness of the drunken people and then telling them all about their crazy stunts the morning after. I could imagine their faces. (hahaha MEAN). Well anyway, at the end of the day all of us had a great time and we all had so much fun. During most of my vacation, I usually end the night lying down under the night sky and waiting for a shooting star while having a deep heart to heart conversation with Him.  My favorite ALONE time. Good thing I was able to see a few shooting stars and had a great time talking to Him. yay!

The night ended great and I was able to sleep well. Forget the Bugs! I really don’t care about them that night.

The next day, me and my friends ate SPAM and hotdogs for breakfast then we went for a boat ride to Capones Island, one of the virgin islands in Zambales. It has white sand and a turquoise blue water. Tempting but don’t underestimate it because it’s basically just a short estimate of 5 meters from the shore before it becomes a 15 feet deep sea. You may wanna use a life jacket for a more relax swim, atleast you wouldn’t have to worry about sinking. Right. hahaha. 🙂

Capones Island
Capones Island

After spending an hour talking at the beach, we went back to our boat then headed back to the port where they picked us up for our ride back home.

So basically, that’s the sum of our quick weekend vacation in Anawangin, Zambales. I really had a great time with my college friends. Even though the details for the trip took me awhile to construct, It is still fun recalling all  the tiny bitsy details from the trip. 🙂 Till next vacation dear ones.

Sweeter Singapore 2012

I can still remember my first time in Singapore four years ago.I was 19 years old  when I accompanied my youngest sister in NTU for the entrance examination. I immediately fell in love with the place especially their system of transportation. (Who wouldn’t?) I had an amazing time back then and I told myself that if given the chance I would really want to go back and explore Singapore much deeper.

Luckily last Nov 30, me and my whole family went for a long weekend vacation in Singapore. Since my father agreed to let me and my youngest sister  take charge for the whole itinerary including finding  the best flight and all, we were able to maximize enough our budget and handle booking the best deal we could possibly find. I guess we’ve learned enough from the last time. Usually parents just book and book whatever they find in the sites or so most of them are lazy in finding the “sulit” (best deal as possible) ones.

6:30 am Via Seair we flew from DMIA in Clark, Pampanga.

seair

I think It was the cheapest flight ever to Singapore. I was asleep the whole time but I just wanna react in behalf of the other passengers who have been disturbed by the inconsiderate and super noisy other passengers. I could hear them even during my REM. (deep sleep) lol . that was all true and I think, that was the opportunity cost of a budget flight. So, I don’t wanna give bad feedback on the airline anymore, just for the co-passengers who are inconsiderate to the other passengers. Anyway, looking at the bright side of everything, we were all safe and sound so Kudos to budget flights! YAY!

Arriving in Singapore at 10:30 AM, we were all hungry so we ate first in the airport. From Changi Airport, we went to Bugis by train using the 3 day tourist pass which is available in the terminal. The tourist pass can be use in Mrt, LRT and buses so I recommend you get one if you are going to roam around Singapore for 3 days.

So, let me just tour you through the photos.

Changi Train terminal

Walking aroundMosque

I think the fun way to explore certain places is to walk around, ride a bus or a train and talk to people. That way you learn more about the locales, the place and the culture.

First on the list in the itinerary: Sentosa

Cable car
Cable car

To Sentosa:

It is pretty much  the same as the Cable car in Ocean Park  Hongkong the only difference is the Angry birds theme printed on its body and now I’m wondering, can we have a version of these here in the Philippines? I remember a time when my mom mentioned about a cable car in Tagaytay, I just haven’t seen it. So, is it real?. Or if there is, is it safe?  Ok fine.I used to wish for one a long time ago. I could imagine one crossing the hilly part of Montalban and QC, yeahh I kinda wished for one before, you know. T-days and all. (Selfish motive but also innovative right? lol) (sorry for the use of fragments)

Moving on, we didn’t have a strict itinerary to follow for the day so we just walked around, found ourselves lost in the isle and of course ate a lot of pizza. (Cheat day it is) We were hoping to spend the whole day in Universal Studios which was also in Sentosa but I’m afraid we lacked time and my parents were tired already since our flight was early. While my sister Em was very disappointed because Universal Studios was one thing she’s been looking forward to, I believe there is still another chance for us to go  there in the future. I wanna say: Better luck next time sister. Kidding.

Universal Studios
Universal Studios

Instead of whining, she insisted on going inside the “Image of Singapore”  which is an award winning historical museum that exhibits culture and history of Singapore using multi-media displays.  Funny thing is – we enjoy a lot of the history-culture bondings. We do a lot of History-culture-medicine-diseases-movie conversation bondings at home. Most of the time when the subject turns into medicine my sister and my mom debates. You know who wins and you know who gets defeated and gets mad in the end. always. (Mom) Hehe.

Images of Singapore

It was already 7 pm and there is still a sight of Mr. Sun. Honestly, I was already tired and I wanna get some sleep and recharge for tomorrows activity. Unfortunately, we got lost somewhere in Alexandra Rd , thus every thing planned for the evening changed. 🙂

FOOD

We tried Singapore ZAMZAM. It is located at the North Bridge road.

It offers authentic Indian-Muslim and a little Malaysian cuisine. Something new to my palate but definitely worth it. It’s my first time to eat Indian food although I’ve always wanted to try it especially after  reading an issue of Rustan’s Sansrival magazine stating how flavorful Indian cuisine is. I will talk about Indian food further on my next blog. Hopefully the soonest. 🙂 But for now, let me just tell you how much I loved it. Try the teh tarik and the Murtabak. No regrets.

Peach Garden Noodle House

Inside the Gardens by the Bay you will find a line of different restaurants. Since we were already starving from the long walk inside the huge garden we chose the nearest restaurant that we could sit and eat comfortably. The menu was quite limited with “noodles” yeahh because It is a noodle restaurant. Anyway, they serve big bowls of noodles with an average price of SGD 6.59. Oh, and they also serve dimsum and dumplings so my tummy is very happy.

Albert Hawker Center

Hawker center or cooked food center in Singapore are pretty much the best place to eat local dishes at a very low price. The food stalls offers a wide range of Chinese , Malaysian cuisines and etc. First on my list-to-eat was the Cereal Prawns, I’ve been dying to eat one since the last time I tried it. Unfortunately, it is not available in Albert Hawker Center and if I only have enough time, I’d go back to Lau Pasat and eat plenty. LOL.

Carrot cake
Carrot cake

The carrot cake doesn’t look like a cake, right? My sisters ordered our food so me and my parents took the liberty of eating whatever was served at the table. It was a hawker so I didn’t expect any thing much about the plating and presentation or how enticing the food will be. I also think you need to be a little picky in choosing the stall to buy your food, you should look for the stall which line is the longest- that will confirm if the food they serve is delicious or not, lol that was my way of thinking I’m sorry. hahaha So far, what I loved about the food we ordered was the Rice noodles that is similarly cooked like the Pad thai and the Bread with a spread of kaya with the two pouched eggs on the side. I also like the home made watercress and home made barley drinks, it is refreshing.

Sometimes, new food, different type of dish, herby-spicy delicacies or other country cuisines makes us skeptic on what we want to eat, lest we wouldn’t like the taste. We all have our reasons that is why when you feel like your stomach won’t tolerate new found foodie or when in doubt you can always go for the safe ones, fast food foodies such as Mc Donalds, Burger King and the like. We did. On our second night. We were very hungry and it was late. Thanks to McDonalds -_-

“MY” Must visit Places

At the Marina Bay Sands stood a big lotus flower inspired building  beside a body of water, the Art and Science Museum. Its architectural design was inspired by the human hand, mangrove tree and a lotus flower.

Luckily One of CNN’s Top 10 must see exhibit the, ART OF THE BRICK by NATHAN SAWAYA was in the art and Science museum at the moment.

Nathan Sawaya – was a New York based artist. He was a lawyer-turned-artist who create large scales of inspirational sculptures out of Lego Bricks.

GARDENS BY THE BAY

Environmental Sustainability and a concept of a City in the Garden. Gardens by the Bay is definitely a must see. Inside the vicinity of  the Gardens by the Bay are two domes. The Flower dome and the Cloud Forest dome.

We went to see first the Flower dome. It showcases different flowers and plants. It has an awesome and innovative design that replicates cool-dry climate of the Mediterranean regions like South Africa,California and other parts like Spain and Italy. I think I just found my haven because as you all know I love flowers and plants. Read my Hue Missed me section and you would know that I am pretty much an enthusiast of gardening.

Flower dome  Flower dome  Flower dome

Flower dome  Flower dome

Such a beautiful place. If ever I’d live in Singapore in the future, (Which I really wish) I swear I’d spend my relaxation days here. My new found haven. The flower dome will be my favorite spot. 🙂 ok, foine. Enough with the wishywishwish.

Upon exiting the Flower dome you’ll see a big souvenir shop with different Singapore trinkets you may wanna buy some for “pasalubong”. I didn’t, but I was able to buy Ice creams- Lavender and Orchid Vanilla. Don’t worry it doesn’t taste “leafy” or “flowery”. The movie “It’s complicated” starring Meryl Streep and Alec Baldwin introduced me to Lavender Ice cream and it made me delighted to try one.

On the other hand, The Cloud Forest – the second dome in the Gardens by the Bay is also known as the Cool moist conservatory where  you can learn more of the rare plants found in the high mountains and jungles. The cloud forest is totally different from the Flower dome with its big water falls that welcomes you as you enter the moist-y misty cold jungle like forest. It is a 35 metre tall mountain covered with lush of greens. The cloud forest showcases plant life from tropical highlands up to 2000 metre above sea level.

The tall-tree like with branches are built for sustainability and  have these photovoltaic cells on their canopies to harvest solar energy for lighting and we call them the Supertrees, while others are integrated with the Conservatories and serve as air exhaust receptacles.

NIGHT SAFARI

Last minute run at the Night Safari. We were very lucky to catch the last tram at 9:30 pm at the Night Safari. As much I wanted to take photographs of the amazing rare animals I didn’t had the chance to get any decent photo of them besides camera flashes are not allowed. I really enjoyed the tram ride and seeing Chawang, an Asian elephant at the Night Safari who’s dancing and swaying while we were passing. So cuteeee 🙂 I look for any picture of Chawang in the internet. He’s so cute! He’s like a cartoon character as he dances and sways in the spot light.

Oh by the way, I had the chance to meet up with one of my best friends in Highschool. 🙂 MIIIIIIKKKKKKAAAAA

Mika

We reserved our last day for shopping. Yes, I bought shoes in Charles and Keith because it is way cheaper here and some clothes in Cotton on. You wouldn’t imagine the price difference. Yesterday, I went to Cotton on in SM the Block and guess what, the pants I bought in Singapore is 1000 peso less. The dress is 500 peso less. GOOD FIND right? Also, some skincare products in Sasa. I think it is practical to take advantage for the low price and by the way when you shop around tell the store that you want a tax refund for your items, just show them your passport and voila you are entitled for a refund once you get to the airport.

So, that concludes my sulit-sudden-vacation in Singapore! Merry Christmas everyone.

Note to self: Next time wear comfy shoes. Walking is fun in Singapore!  Yay! 🙂

Looking Back: Ilocos Trip!

Hey everyone. It’s been too long since the day I wrote here. I’m really sorry about that. I just gave myself a break after all the issues I’ve been through, but that is past, and I think my post now is part of the past but I assure you this one is the happiest. What is sad is I  wasn’t able to blog about it as soon as possible just because I was crazy spending my time thinking too much, but all is well and happy again. Let me just give a little detail on the pictures from our Ilocos Trip.

Via Cebu Pacific we arrived in Ilocos in just an hour.

Five star hotel in Ilocos Norte
Definitely the best.

We checked in at the coziest, famous resort hotel in the Ilocos Region, Fort Ilocandia Hotel. The hotel was made with bricks and hard wood floors and very filipino windows. Our room was over looking the swimming pool, I could just stay there forever. It has a balcony where I sat there to drink coffee while looking at the lush of green and flowers and my boss who’s doing a little meditation. Definitely the best place to just relax.

On our first day, we went straight to the Malacanang Palace of the North where the former President Marcos used to stay whenever he is in Ilocos.

As you can see, Me and my friends were having  a little pictorial inside the palace with the big “capis-made window” in our back.

Our next stop – Paoay Church. “Kaway sa Paoay” as the famous tagline says in the billboard of It’smorefuninthePhilippines.

Paoay Church

Paoay Church was designated by UNESCO as World heritage site. With its distinct architecture and enormous facade no wonder It’s been in the list of tourist’s “must-see” in Ilocos since forever.

Coming right up! La Preciosa Restaurant located in Laoag Ilocos Norte , our choice for our dinner. It was a delicious and sumptuous dinner for every one.

Poqui poqui

Poqui poqui is An Ilocano eggplant and egg dish.

Dinengdeng

Dinengdeng is similar to pinakbet however it has fewer vegetables and more likely with a soup and bagoong as its base.

Pinakbet

We also had Pinakbet ( Meat-vegetable-stew)  also a popular Ilokano dish also not so unusual to our taste because most of us serve this at home. I just had one today. 🙂

La Preciosa

We also had lechon and many more, but I wasn’t able to take pictures of them because I was already busy eating. 🙂 That concludes our first day. After the dinner we went straight to our hotel to freshen up and rest while Yayi, Madel, Liezl and Noel went to the beach to party. But the rest of us, Diana, Alyssa, Sir Jibens and me stayed in the hotel to get more energy for tomorrow’s activity.

DAY 2

Wakeywakey time to eat our brekky. 🙂 Good thing it is a buffet breakfast. Everybody feast!  yay!

Buffet Breakfast

Thankfully,we had a chance to get energized and eat well. I had a big plate – so it is SULIT (Getting more of what you paid for)!

feeling sexy free!

Me, madel and Noel had enough time to roam around the hotel while the others are prepping up.

Next on our List – Cape Bojeador but before that, we had a little stop over somewhere near for the bathroom break since it’s really hours of travel from Laoag most us needed to void our bladders. lol The place was beach side and also relaxing. It suddenly became part of our itinerary because the place was really amazing.

Sir Jibens, Boss liez, Noelitwo, Hilary, D, Chonaballs, Marie and Me! 🙂

We had atleast 30 shots here because we definitely fell in love with the place.

Cape Bojeador

Cape Bojeador lighthouse is also known as Burgos Lighthouse in Burgos, Ilocos Norte. It was built during the Spanish colonial period in the Philippines. The locales in the place are very friendly, they suggested we go straight to Kapurpurawan rock formation immediately because Coco Martin (local actor) was said to have a shooting there. Without hesitation we then went to Kapurpurawan Rock formation for Coco Martin.

with our BFF

Surprisingly, It wasn’t Coco Martin but Mario Maurer. Unfortunately, he wasn’t allowed to be taken some pictures, I managed to have some stolen shots but nothing decent. While walking along, we saw Erich Gonzales (local actress) , she’s really nice and because she is nice let me just say Please watch their movie Suddenly it’s magic. lol

Moving on, we put on our best smiles and took alot of photos around the vicinity of the rock formation which is very beautiful.

Kapurpurawan Rock formation or White rock formation was really awesome. Thank you Lord for this wonderful creation.

We had alot of fun pictures here because it was really lovely. Truly a “must-visit” place. Put it in your list now!  While I was there I kind of think “what an amazing place to have a pre-nup photoshoot here”  and I don’t think that is new.  So, me and my friend Noel pretended to be lovers on some pictures and voila my imagination was somewhat fulfilled. hahaha. 🙂

Next in our itinerary. The famous Bangui windmills.

Bangui Windmills

In the background you can see the turbines of 20 units 70 metre high arranged on a row.

Gangnam style in Ilocos

It is a 9 kilometer stretch in the shoreline of Bangui. In the picture Noel is doing the Gangnam style. Kidding.

Now entering the town of Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte. Almost late in the afternoon and we are hurrying up for the sunset. But wait, let’s not miss anything. Starting with the long and winding Patapat Bridge.

Long and winding Patapat Bridge

Patapat Bridge or also known as Patapat Viaduct is a 1.3 km bridge that connects Ilocos and Cagayan Valley.

Before our final destination which is a resort in Pagudpud, we first had a side trip in Blue Lagoon.

Blue Lagoon

OK,we are almost there and it’s almost dark soon. Pagudpud beach here we come!

Pagudpud beach

Before we lose sight of the sun, we prep up as fast as we can and went straight to the shore to see the beautiful white sand and the lovely sun as it sets. Of course, it will never be complete without the best of our laugh picture.

yay for Night swimming

After the tiring day I think it is best to finish it with another awesome … oh wait I forgot to mention about our lunch, we had a quick lunch before proceeding to Kapurpurawan Rock formation and snack before we went for a swim. so back to our dinner. . .

Crickets for dinner

We had Crickets (Salagubang) for dinner.  Kidding. we tried that, I think it’s ok for me but since it is one those exotic food here in the Philippines, most of my friends didn’t liked it. It was crunchy by the way. 🙂

Lobster and crab conversation : who wants to go first in her tummy?

Yeahh, who wants to go first in my tummy?  Crabby raised her claws!!! lols kidding aside, Our dinner was definitely another feast. We had crabs and lobsters. My friend Yayi, who is one of the very choosy people I know when it comes to food really enjoyed everything served in the table except the crickets.

Yayi eating lobster like there is no tomorrow

After the dinner, we still manage to have a few shots of tequila, oh except me, I just had one i guess, as much as I’d love to, my tummy won’t allow and will just make me a pain in the ass the next day so I opt on just putting a little “panggulo” in their game as they took  shots of tequila. Yay! I had fun confusing them in their game of series categories. The sleeping person in the background is Sir Jibens.

That concludes our Day 2. 🙂

Day 3

As much as we wanted to see more of the beach, we had an itinerary to follow.

Thank you so much Terra rika resort for accomodating us and for the delicious dinner.

Terra Rika Resorts

It was still foggy that morning and I’m loving the weather so far. First on our list to visit is the Bacarra ruins. Pardon my foggy-ish photo.

Bacarra Ruins

The bell tower of Bacarra in our background was constructed in 1830 and was destroyed by an intensity earthquake in 1931.

Time for another feast. We had our breakfast at Atty Leano’s house in Bacarra.

Dinuguan
Bagnet
Pako salad

we also had Sinanglao and Omelette for the breakfast. Define Heavy.

We can’t thank you enough Atty Leano for being so kind, generous and very accommodating to us and most importantly for the heavy meal we had!

The list. next in our “where-to-go” in Ilocos was really a far travel to Vigan, Ilocos Sur. So fellow travellers if you really want to see the best of Ilocos Sur and its highlights you should allot atleast a day with a very early trip from Laoag and atleast 7pm departure from Vigan. The 7 pm departure as for my suggestion is just because the streets of Vigan are wonderful during the evening, but not so late of course. For us, we had the Bantay Bell tower and Calle Crisologo for the “must-visit-if-you-are-rushing” in Vigan City. It was a rainy day so we really had to leave Vigan asap.

Bell Tower Bantay Ilocos Sur

Not to miss the Calesa ride

That concludes our Vigan trip. Oh by the way, one quick fact. I’m really familiar with the places in Ilocos Sur because I live there for 3 years and it was really a happy place for me. Sadly, I wasn’t able to tour them to the other beautiful places of Ilocos Sur. Not to worry, because there will always be another time.

Going back to another journey back to Ilocos Norte. Our driver for the day was very enthusiastic in showing us different spots and even the welcome arches are not excused. So hello again Ilocos Norte.

Hello again Ilocos Norte

Back to our hotel in Fort Ilocandia, we gave our drivers a super Thank you for being so kind to us during our trip. Since it is our last night in Fort Ilocandia we wanted to make the most out of it. So we went on a night swimming in their olympic sized pool.

Swimming time

It was a super fun night until Sir Jibens punched me in the nose. HAHAHA lol

Kidding, it was an accident. But it really hurts. hahah But not to ruin the night we just laughed about it.

dinner

After the swim, we had a dinner in their bar and the drinks was free. I mean it was on the house. 🙂 That concludes our day 3.

Day 4

Making the most out of our last day, Me, Liezl, yayi and madel went to the pool to have an early swimming.

Morning swim

Good exercise before breakfast.

Almost over

It was a fun day for picture taking around the hotel but sadly the trip was almost over.

Back to the airport

Back to the airport, we officially said goodbye to Ilocos. It was a crazy and fun vacation with friends 🙂

I’m so happy to have such wonderful friends with me, especially now that I’m writing this blog which makes me look back on what happened last summer. It is really good to look back once in a while, it makes you appreciate the happy memories of the past and you know that despite the struggles you face in between you always have something to look forward in life. Happiness.

To peace , Happiness and friends. *cheers
